Local File Scanning
EmailExtractorMax can scan your local files and folders for email addresses. This is perfect for extracting contacts from documents, spreadsheets, and archived emails stored on your Mac.
Supported File Formats
EmailExtractorMax supports a wide range of file formats:
- Documents: TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, PDF
- Spreadsheets: CSV, XLS, XLSX
- Web files: HTML, HTM, XML
- Mail files: EML, EMLX (Apple Mail)
How to Scan Files
1. Select Local Files Mode
In the main window, click on the "Local Files" tab to switch to the file scanning mode.
2. Add Files or Folders
You can add files for scanning in two ways:
- Drag and drop files or folders directly into the app window
- Click "Add Files" or "Add Folder" to browse and select
3. Configure Options
Before starting the scan, you can configure:
- Recursive scanning: Process all subfolders within selected directories
- File type filter: Limit the scan to specific file extensions
4. Start the Scan
Click the "Start" button to begin scanning. EmailExtractorMax will process files using multi-threaded scanning for fast results. Extracted emails appear in real-time in the results table.
Folder Scanning
When scanning entire directories, EmailExtractorMax can process them recursively, meaning all files in subfolders will also be scanned. This is useful when you have a large archive of documents organized in multiple folders.
Apple Mail Support
EmailExtractorMax has built-in support for Apple Mail's .emlx file format. You can scan your Mail library to extract email addresses from your existing correspondence.
Tips for Best Results
- Use folder scanning to process large collections of files at once
- Enable recursive mode to include all subfolders automatically
- Filter by file type if you only need to scan specific formats
- Use blacklists to exclude unwanted domains from results
